Lyn Ayers started collecting beer steins while he was in the US Army in the late 1960s stationed in Germany. During his stay, he fell in love with beer steins, especially the older prewar ones.
His tour ended, followed by college, marriage, and starting a career. Lyn did little with the steins he had brought home except to occasionally unpack a couple and remember the good times he had driving around Germany collecting them.
Lyn’s life stabilized by the mid-1980s, and his interest in beer steins began to resurface. His wife recognized his passion and had a custom cabinet built to display his steins. This provided additional motivation for adding to his collection.
In 1993 at a Stein Collectors Convention, Lyn first noticed J. W. Remy steins and soon began studying its products in earnest. He continued collecting more seriously and became increasingly interested in the company behind the steins. Soon friends suggested that he should write a book to share his increasing knowledge about the topic. Lyn continued his collecting with the germ of an idea that a book could be written.
For several years, Lyn devoted much of his spare time focusing on writing a book about J. W. Remy. That book, The Artistry of J. W. Remy Steins, became a reality and is available for purchase directly from the author through the Contact Us link or order from Amazon.
If you have questions or observations, Lyn would be pleased to discuss them with you. Maybe you both can learn something new about J. W. Remy and its steins.
